A River Of Life Blog
Life is somewhat like a river. The current of the river is like our everyday lives, and those things that you see floating on the water are like our everyday experiences and adventures, that seems to come and go. And when the current gets stronger, it is no time for messing around because the water will drown you and wash you away. Just like in life, when tough time comes, it is time to hang on tight, don't give up and fight to survive.
I call my blog "A River Of Life" because it is an update of my everyday life and the things that are happening with me and my family. Enjoy!
Happy 4th of July, US of A! Again we are celebrating this meaningful moment of Independence. From the Blankenship family, we hope that you may have a wonderful moment sharing and celebrating it with your family, friends, and the rest of the world. Have a great day! Keep safe!
Happy 1st Father's Day to the man of my life, daddy Tim. He has been the most wonderful that we have ever known. He loves his son so much and he is so proud of his little guy. Baby Harley loves his dad so much that's because daddy Tim spoiled him with love and care. They both are great buddies and they always love to hang out with each other. Even if daddy is working outside, baby Harley still wants to go and help daddy in whatever he is doing. On your day daddy Tim, we would like to pamper you with so much love and care. Mama will make you breakfast in bed and I hope you will like it. LOL! I already gave him his first Father's day gift earlier and all I have left is to cook him something really good. I know he is going to want to have chocolate cake with frosting. That is his favorite! We love you so much daddy Tim and we thank you for being such an amazing dad.
And to my Papa Frederick, Happy Father's Day to you too and we hope and pray that you will no longer have any illnesses and that God will touch and heal you. Thank you so much papa for being such a good father to me and we are sorry that we are not there with you to celebrate this occasion, but know that you are dearly loved by us. God Bless these two precious people in my life.To all the father's in this world, Happy Father's Day and may you enjoy the day with your friends and family.
Since it is vacation time, Tim does not have to go to work and he has 3 months to be with us and relax before going back to work at school. We spend a lot of time together, with baby HF and the dogs. Part of our day is to visit the farm and see what's happening around. It is always a relief whenever we get to visit the farm because there are a lot of unexpected things that you will get to see. Last Monday, we headed to the farm and since the weather was a bit humid, I did not feel like moving much at all or even getting out of the vehicle. Harley and I were in the farm truck while Tim went down the river bank and look for something interesting, like fossils or arrowheads, etc. For some reason, Tim's "I'll be back in a minute", seemed long and I wondered where he might be and what took him so long to get back to the truck. I wasn't feeling good at all, I was hot and tired, plus my baby boy was all squirmy and hyper-active. I transferred to the driver's seat because my little boy was wanting to yank the steering wheel and play. Just as I was about to call Tim, I turned to my left and there went this huge frog that at first glance, I thought it was a huge snake like an Anaconda right in front of me and ready to eat me. Ughhhh! It made me so petrified that I screamed and almost gave me a heart attack. This time, my husband really got me good! Of course, this silly man of mine was laughing and having fun at my expense seeing me all terrified. He needed a spanking on the butt at that time. Who would have thunk that he would do such a thing? Especially out in the middle of the farm where the grasses have already grown so tall that you would think a giant snake is out there lurking around looking for a prey? LOL! It really frightened me to death!
Anyway, Tim found this bullfrog down down the river bank and was not looking good. At that time he was looking for food, but because there was not that much food down there, he looked a bit exhausted, sort of. So my husband decided to help the poor frog and transferred him down the slough where he can get a lot of food and with a full tummy. We just hope he did not get eaten by the snake though. While we were on our way to his new home, Tim asked me to take photos of the bullfrog on the steering wheel as if it was driving the truck. LOL! That is my silly man, I tell yah! I thought it was kind of cute though so I did took some photos.
Here is a close up of the big bullfrog that lives out in the farm.
When my husband scared me with the frog, I thought that I probably do something in revenge. LOL! So, while he was on the computer, all so serious and did not even hear me sneaking up behind him, I pulled out this stuffed turtle in color green and scared him with it. He was sure jumpy that I was scared it might give him a heart attack too! But it was sure funny though because I finally got him in return and we both were just cracking and laughing out loud because we both got each other. It turned out to be a beautiful day though and we found whole bunch of stuff.
Yesterday, Sunday, my husband got the little pool out and filled it up with water. Since it is still a bit chilly, Harley didn't get to go in the water and splash. Our little boy was really eager to get in the water and play, so he was testing the water and check out cold it was. He loves bath time and be in the water. So we can't wait for him to really get in the water once the weather is warm and perfect for swimming in his little pool. Here is a video that I took yesterday of Harley by the little pool.
The Gars (Gar pike or Needle fish) were back for spawning time and they were trying so hard to swim upstream and fighting through the strong current. It was pretty amazing though because we have never seen that many gar out there at the river. It was so neat watching them though. Gars are hard to catch and so far, I have never seen one up close. Well, a dead one, but that does not count. LOL! I asked Tim if he had tasted gar before and he said it tasted good. I sure am curious about it though.
Gars are an ancient type of fish and are closely related to bow fin. They have an elongated body, with ganoid scales, with also an elongated jaws filled with sharp teeth. Gars are actually big fish, but there is this other type of gar that is really big or the biggest- Alligator Gar. It is just so neat when they finally come back on the same spot of the river and see them waiting for the right time to spawn. Once they are done spawning, they will all live and go back to the big lake and wait for another year of mating and spawning season.
In my video, you will not see them clear, but you can see them splishing and splashing in the water.
Tim and I both love to fish. He was the one that taught me how because when I was in the Philippines, I have always wanted to go fishing, but I didn't get to. So when I came to the US, it was very exciting when I first learned to fish. Fishing is fun, exciting and challenging as well. It takes a lot of patience and the time to really have a good catch. Since we have the access to the river, actually the best spot for fishing, we always love to go to the farm when the time is right for it. We mostly catch catfish and sometimes bass.
The last time we went fishing, the river was up and the weather was nice. While girl Spink went on her own hunting and running around, just being a dog, our little Sider boy was left behind since he can't keep up with Spink. He decided to stay with daddy and hang out with him while Tim's fishing. Sider boy is a dog of character. When we first met Sider boy, no one would take him so we ended up giving him to mom to keep her company. He did not like it there since mom is already and old lady and there wasn't any interaction going on, unlike with us, we have two female dogs and he enjoys being with us and the trip to the farm. We ended taking him and since then, he became one of our dogs. He is sweet, gentle dog and that everybody loves him. He never left Tim's side while he was fishing and waiting for the fish to bite. We got lucky that day and we caught some catfish. Two little ones and one big catfish. Next time again!

We live in Chetopa, a small town located at the Southeast corner of Kansas. Its population is about 1200 to 1300 and is a really nice and peaceful community. Chetopa is the Catfish and Pecan Capital of Kansas. We enjoy living here in Chetopa and this is the place where my husband and I got married and started our family. We have a farm that we love to go to and just spend time out there with each other.
Life is one big adventure that we cherish every moment that comes. And blogging or writing about is one way to keep the memories alive.
